About

The 600-acre campus of Princeton University is located in a cosmopolitan town (population 30,000) in central New Jersey, with easy train access to Philadelphia and New York City, both 55 miles away. There are about 180 buildings on the Princeton campus, including ten libraries with over 14 million books. It attracts a large number of visitors, with an estimated 800,000 people visiting its open campus each year, bringing in about $2 billion in revenue. Princeton University offers 39 different undergraduate degrees, divided into 36 majors in 16 areas of study. The university admits students to 42 degree-granting departments and programs in the Graduate schools.



History of Princeton University

Princeton University is the fourth-oldest college in the United States, having been founded in 1746. From colonial times to the twenty-first century, the University has been led by 20 presidents. John Chavis was the first African American to attend Princeton in 1792, and he is one of only a few African Americans who pursued private studies with faculty members during the 18th century. The university is affiliated with the Association of American Universities (AAU), Universities Research Association (URA), National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and is among the space-grant universities in the US. In 2022, it is ranked 20th in the world by QS World University Rankings, which places a high value on academic reputation. It is also ranked 16th in the global rankings by US News and World Report. The Times Higher Education in its World University Rankings 2022, positioned Princeton at #7.
