History, Affiliations and Rankings Founded in 1903, the University of Victoria is a prominent non-private research institution located in Victoria, Canada. One of the largest comprehensive universities in Canada known for preparing career-ready graduates, along with its dynamic learning, impact and learning environment, the University of Victoria was established with the aim to solve the world's major challenges through innovation, technology and social development. The origin of the university can be dated back to 1903 when it was known as Victoria College and was awarded degree granting powers in 1963. The University of Victoria is affiliated with Universities Canada (AUCC), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Canadian University Press (CUP). It ranks #334 in the QS World University Rankings and in the bracket #301-350 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the year 2022.
