The campus of UCLA has more than 1000 clubs and student organizations. Its stunning buildings, huge classrooms and vibrant campus are often featured in movies because of its proximity to Hollywood studios. UCLA has an interesting tradition that started in 1941 when USC students stole the 295-pound bell when awarded to the winner of the annual UCLA-USC football game. It is known as the “Victory Bell”. UCLA is known for food and was ranked under Town & Country Magazine as having the best college food in the United States. History of University Of California Los Angeles
Established in 1953 and formerly known as Los Angeles Normal School in 1881 for aspiring teachers and then, later renamed as University of California Southern Branch in 1919. The university has one of the finest academic reputations in the country and is considered as one of the “Public Ivies” providing an “Ivy League” college experience at public university prices. UCLA is counted among the best higher educational institutions in the country after University of California, Berkeley. The university is affiliated with the Association of American Universities, Universities Research Association, and Space-grant colleges.
