Lincoln University is located in Oxford in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, on a 422-acre campus. The university's second site is in University City, Philadelphia. This university offers undergraduate and graduate courses to roughly 2,000 students. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has Lincoln University as a member school. History of Lincoln University
Lincoln University was established as a private university in 1854 and closed in 1972. It was established as a public university and was renowned as the United States' first degree-granting institution; it has remained a public institution since. Ashmun Institute was renamed Lincoln University in 1866, a year after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. During the long decades of legal segregation in the South, the college drew extremely intelligent students from a variety of states. The Senior College and University Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges has granted its accreditation (WSCUC). According to the 2020 edition of US News and World Report, Lincoln University is placed #119 in Regional Universities North, #41 in Top Performers on Social Mobility, and #40 in Top Public Schools. Lincoln University is placed at #372 in QS World University Rankings 2022.
