About

History, Affiliations and Rankings Australian National University is an open research university, popularly known as Australia's national university. Its establishment dates back to 1930 when the Canberra University College enrolled its first students, in a loose association with the University of Melbourne. The University finally achieved University status in 1960, when it started offering Undergraduate degree programs after integrating with Canberra College. It was in 1984, that the ANU Graduate School was established. Today, ANU is one of the global leaders in research, education and policy engagement, which has also produced the most number of Nobel Laureates among staff and alumni than other universities in Australia. ANU is affiliated with the International Association of Research Universities (IARU), Group of Eight, APRU, UNESCO Chairs, U7 Alliance, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) and other international academic bodies. A top 100 university, Australian National University ranks #54 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.



History of Australian National University

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses Situated in the inner city suburb of Acton, Canberra, Australian National University has other campus locations across New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. These are Kioloa Coastal Campus, Mount Stromlo Observatory, North Australia Research Unit Campus, and the Siding Spring Observatory. The University has 4 learned societies, namely the Academy of Humanities, Academy of Science, Academy of Social Science and Academy of Law. The University comprises 7 Colleges, all of which are integrated with research and teaching. The academic structure is maintained by the Council and operated by 15 members. ANU offers students with a wide variety of study options as Undergraduate degree programs, Postgraduate degree programs, and professional degree program. Courses in Arts, Society and Culture, Law and Legal Studies, Business and Commerce, Engineering and Computer Science, Natural, Physical and Environmental Sciences, Health and Medical Studies are offered.
