Jane and Leland Stanford established the Leland Stanford Junior University, now known as Stanford University in 1885 in honour of their only child, Leland Jr., who died of typhoid fever at the age of 15. Following his death in 1884, the Stanfords resolved to put their fortune to good use by helping other people's children. Stanford is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). The university is also affiliated with the Association of American Universities (AAU), Conceive Design Implement Operate (CDIO) and Space-grant. This university has been ranked 3rd by the QS World University Rankings 2022 whereas the university rankings as declared by THE (Times Higher Education) for the year 2022 ranks Stanford at #3.
History of Stanford University
Stanford’s areas of excellence span seven schools along with research institutes, the arts and athletics. It has an endowment value of $37.8 billion. The faculty works closely with students and conducts groundbreaking research. The university researchers are working on 7,900+ externally sponsored projects worth a total budget of $1.69 billion.
