Leeds Arts university City Center building is on Vernon Street, between the Merrion Shopping Center and Millennium Square. The university provides degrees in a wide range of subjects, including animation and fashion photography. In Northern England, it is the only institution that focuses on the arts. History of Leeds Arts University

The University of Leeds was founded in 1846 as the Leeds School of Art. The Leeds Mechanics Institute and the Literary Society united in 1842, resulting in the establishment of The Leeds Government School Design four years later. In 1903, the school relocated to Vernon Street, where it remains today. The university has been given full institution status and will now be the first specialized arts university in the North of England, following a rigorous review procedure and acceptance by the Privy Council. The university is ranked #149 in Best Global Universities (tie), #55 in Best Global Universities in Europe (tie) and #16 in Best Global Universities in the United Kingdom as per the ranking list by US News and World Report.
