History of Queen Mary University Of London

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is an English public research university based in London, UK. It is also recognised by the federal University of London as a constituent college. In the year 1785, it was established as the London Medical College and was officially designated as a university in 1887. St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, London Hospital Medical College, Westfield College, and Queen Mary College were the four founding institutions of QMUL. All four institutions were established with the goal of improving the lives of those who are less privileged. The London Hospital Medical College and St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College were founded to enhance the health of the City and East London residents. Women and working-class populations in the East End received education from Westfield College and Queen Mary College, respectively, during a time when these groups faced significant impediments to quality education.
