About
Greenwich Village in Manhattan (primary campus) and Downtown Brooklyn (NYU Tandon School of Engineering) are NYU's two campuses in the cherished hometown. Students can choose from 23 residential halls, and all new freshmen are guaranteed accommodation for four years. The majority of NYU's buildings are located in a roughly square area defined on the south by Houston Street, on the east by Broadway, on the north by 14th Street, and on the west by Sixth Avenue. Washington Square Park is surrounded by the majority of NYU's main buildings and offers a five-million-square-foot interior space and over 1,700 faculty members to advise and assist students in their studies. The university currently operates at 12 academic centres in the United States that accept both domestic and international students. Aside from that, the university maintains international campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, China. Students from all over the globe come to NYU Abu Dhabi for a strong liberal arts education from a world-class research institution, and the Chinese campus is located in the heart of Shanghai, one of Asia's cultural and financial capitals.
History of New York University
The "University of the City of New York" (as NYU was originally known) was envisioned from the start as something new: an academic institution metropolitan in persona, democratic in spirit, and responsive to the demands of a bustling commercial culture. It was founded in 1831 by a foresighted group of prominent New Yorkers. The first classes in contemporary disciplines like architecture, civil engineering, astronomy, chemistry, sculpture, painting, English and modern languages, as well as classical Greek and Latin, began in rented quarters near City Hall in October 1832. The institution was founded in Greenwich Village, New York, in 1831, and has since expanded to other parts of the country. NYU's founders decided to build a university that would be "in and of the city" in 1831.
